Perth Museum

The winter school holidays are upon us and I say YAY. We picked a fine day and headed to the Perth Museum with our friends.

It was sooo busy and made it hard to see a lot but the kids had fun being together. I think they enjoyed going on the train and being in the city.

This group of kids get on so well and we never have any arguments or nastiness which is nice.

There was a lot to see but also lots of people. I think Lucy and I will have to go on a school day when it is quiet so we can have a really good look around.

Rory and Dylan

Elissa and Krystal

The Three Amigos - Lucy, Christie and Tegan

Ethan and Brody

 The whole gang.
After the museum we had lunch and the kids watched a street show and a mime. After being utterly exhausted we headed home again on the train.
It was a lovely day but boy I was tired!!!! I slept for a few hours when I got home and have had a very quiet day today.

Peek Through Last Week

This past week has gone so fast with the usualy weekly stuff and a few fun things thrown in. Teaching, house duties and business stuff has been the main activities of the week.

As 1st July is the start of the new financial year James and I took the bold move to de-register for the GST. This has taken a little time to organize with calls to the tax dept and with the re-ordering of stationary but I am SO glad. I don't know why we didn't do it sooner. The next month with take a little sorting but nothing I can't handle........ I look forward to the less office work I will have to do and also the bonus of not sending the tax office money every 3 months. YAY....

Wednesday evening Jess and I went to see the movie "Bridesmaid". I was hilarious and a feel great movie at the same time. I had a great time and enjoyed being with my girl.

Friday night James and I had date night at the "Swinging Pig" . We had a lovely meal and a super yummy sticky date pudding for dessert. It was cold and stormy outside and I enjoyed sitting in a quiet part of the pub with the blazing fire while we ate a scrumptious meal.
Afterwards we called in to visit Jess and Mike for a minute and then headed home to Matt and Lucy. This was the first time we had let Matt babysit Lucy while we actually went out on a date. I got to wear my Kwik Sew Jacket I made and apart from a few adjustments necessary on my next pattern I am really happy with it.

The weekend is just a quiet one. Steve and Gail were at mum's yesterday and Steve and I did some nice reminiscing of old school days and chatted about people we had forgotten about.
Today I plan to start my sewing for our Gold Coast holiday in September. Yes it is still a while away but as my sewing time is limited I want to get a head start and not feel rushed. School holidays are a week away so if I can get my sewing plan in place I hope to knock out a few garments.

Lucy's 11th Birthday Part Two

Sunday was the REAL birthday of my precious girl.

A much wanted DS was waiting for her with a number of cool games to keep her busy in the following year. Nintendo Dogs is so very cute!!

Birthday cake number two for the weekend was lit for all the family to enjoy. Nana, Grandad and Rob came over as well as Jess and Mikey to celebrate. I tried out the piping kit I picked up from the church and whilst I will never make a cake decorator it was fun to do.

Candles and sparklers on a cake always make it look a little specialer.....

Lucy received some lovely birthday gifts including LOTS of cash..... She got a beautiful necklace off Steve and Gail and a Zhu Zhu pet of Jess and Mikey.

After everyone left James and Matt headed to Claremont showgrounds to see the SupaNova exhibition and Lu and I just kicked back and relaxed for the afternoon. She was exhausted and so was I. A few hours in my sewing room was just what I needed to end a busy weekend.

Lucy's Birthday Part One

Today my baby turned 11!!! I can't believe that she is that age already. I sooo don't want her to grow up. She is just so easy to be around and I guess 'cos she IS my baby I am not ready for the next few years ahead.  I know from the other two that very soon she will be changing and becoming more independent.

Yesterday we celebrated her special day by having her two best friends over.

Tegan and Christie have been friends with Lucy for many years now and they are all so sweet together. First they enoyed having pizza for lunch and playing and then we went to see Kung Fu Panda 2.

The girls thought it was really good, not so much myself but then I have a hard time staying awake in kids movies lol!!!! My mind wanders and I think about all the things I could be doing at home.
Never the less Lucy had a fabulous time and that's all that matters.

After the movie they came home and played some more. We have a tree in the garden behind us that loses it's leaves when it is windy and they end up in our yard. The girls though it was AWESOME and spent the entire afternoon rolling in, kicking and throwing the leaves. They were hilarious.

They loaded the leaves onto the trampoline and ust kept throwing them in the air. Oh to be 11 again and just enjoy the simple things in life.

Cake was then the order of  the day.

And of course a little silliness with  lolly teeth. Aren't they attractive?

After they went home I was EXHAUSTED. Having a child with Ehlers Danlos who spends a lot of time laying down and resting it is a real eye opener having other children around. These kids have soo much energy and never stop chattering. They are absolutely delightful and fun to be around but utterly exhausting. It is only when I see Lucy around other children that I realize how disabled she really is. Today she has rested all day and now feeling very unwell. It 's fun to have special days but it sure does that it's toll.

What's Been Happening

I haven't been blogging and not sure why!!! I think I need to do a dot point update.....

  • Lucy's teeth removal operation was cancelled just before theatre. She was ready to go and the anaesthetist pulled the pin. Boy was I mad. I still must make some phone calls about this.
  • I think the above put me in a bad place for a while and I just lost my mojo.
  • I thought I was onto a winner with my headaches as after a few days with Nasonex I seemed better, but wait... it is back. I have now returned to taking the migraine meds to see if a combination will help. All I know is that I am over it!!!
  • James had a cortisone injection in his hand today to take the swelling out of his finger. I hope it helps, he said the pain was awful when the needle went in. YIKES!
  • I finally made some tie backs for my bedroom curtains and they look GOOD even if I say so myself.
  • I have sewed some pants for Lucy and am now working on a Jacket for me. It's slow going as I'm only up to the pattern alteration stage.
  • I am sure there needs to be more hours in a day for an EDSer to get things done. Between teaching, chores, gym, business stuff and other things there is not a lot of time for other things.
  • I want to do stuff but need more energy!!!!!
I'm sure there's more going on but what the heck I can't remember much these days. I need to do a daily post even if nothing much has happened.

New Look 6810

It's been a long while since I posted but I have been unwell. I will post about that another day 'cos I want to talk about this pattern I finally finished.

I am not convinced whether I like it or not. It looks nice on  but I am not sure how comfortable it will be. It has some weird pulling going on which was probably my fault but I am not sure why. It is pulling to one side at the bust in quite a strange way. The proof will be in the wearing as always. The pattern firstly calls for a woven but I really thinks it lends itself to a knit which to me is what the envelope picture shows.

It is more flattering on than I thought it would be when I was sewing it. I was convinced I was going to have a wadder. One thing I need to work out on all my patterns is the whole shoulder thing. No matter how much I add to the front shoulder seam it still seems to pull forward. To much added here and I get gaposis so I think I will have to post on PatternReview for some advice.
One thing I learnt from sewing this pattern is how much more of a shoulder slope I have on my right side. This top was falling off and not fitting very well on the right side at all.

I think I will have another go at this top soon maybe in a cotton or knit fabric as the style is quite flattering.

I so wish I could sew every day. I have so many things I want to try and I feel my fitting skills are getting better all the time. They are not perfect but I am learning something new on every garment. Certainly the fit is a whole lot better than RTW.

No Chocolate Day 2

This is Day two of the no chocolate challenge. I did ok yesterday but did LOOK at the chocolate bars at the chemist when I went to get my prescriptions. Thankfully, I was able to walk away......

Yesterday I had my first physio session on my neck and YIKES did it HURT!!!!! I didn't realize how tight my neck is. It is very sore this morning and I feel yuck. I am so over feeling crappy every day.

I don't know why but after a physio session I am so tired and just want to sleep.

Today is full of teaching and then preparation for Lucy teeth removal at King Eddies tomorrow. I think an eary night will be in order seen as we have to be up so early.
