New Look 6810

It's been a long while since I posted but I have been unwell. I will post about that another day 'cos I want to talk about this pattern I finally finished.

I am not convinced whether I like it or not. It looks nice on  but I am not sure how comfortable it will be. It has some weird pulling going on which was probably my fault but I am not sure why. It is pulling to one side at the bust in quite a strange way. The proof will be in the wearing as always. The pattern firstly calls for a woven but I really thinks it lends itself to a knit which to me is what the envelope picture shows.

It is more flattering on than I thought it would be when I was sewing it. I was convinced I was going to have a wadder. One thing I need to work out on all my patterns is the whole shoulder thing. No matter how much I add to the front shoulder seam it still seems to pull forward. To much added here and I get gaposis so I think I will have to post on PatternReview for some advice.
One thing I learnt from sewing this pattern is how much more of a shoulder slope I have on my right side. This top was falling off and not fitting very well on the right side at all.

I think I will have another go at this top soon maybe in a cotton or knit fabric as the style is quite flattering.

I so wish I could sew every day. I have so many things I want to try and I feel my fitting skills are getting better all the time. They are not perfect but I am learning something new on every garment. Certainly the fit is a whole lot better than RTW.

No Chocolate Day 2

This is Day two of the no chocolate challenge. I did ok yesterday but did LOOK at the chocolate bars at the chemist when I went to get my prescriptions. Thankfully, I was able to walk away......

Yesterday I had my first physio session on my neck and YIKES did it HURT!!!!! I didn't realize how tight my neck is. It is very sore this morning and I feel yuck. I am so over feeling crappy every day.

I don't know why but after a physio session I am so tired and just want to sleep.

Today is full of teaching and then preparation for Lucy teeth removal at King Eddies tomorrow. I think an eary night will be in order seen as we have to be up so early.

Chocolate free Month

Well I have been eating WAY too much chocolate and it really is my weakness in life.

The question I have is "does it contribute to my head pains?"

Chocolate is a huge cause of migraines but since I am not convinced it is migraines that I am suffering from I need to find out once and for all!!!

The sandomigran is causing me to be hungry all the time and so the weight is going on. This is no good.... I can't afford to put any more kilos on!!

Soooo, as of today chocolate will not pass my lips for one whole month. Now that's not to say I won't put anything in it's place lol!!

This is something I NEED to do right now and I will keep a track on here as to how I go.

New Look 6810

New Look 6810

This is the pattern I am working on at the moment. So far I have done the following

  •  I started with an 18 at the neck and then I merged out to a 22 at the bust, waist and hips.
  • On the back I have done the usual adjustments - a small rounded high back adjustment and I did a 3cm tuck at the waist. Now I usually do a sway back ,but I will wait to the end of all my other adjustments to decide on that.
  • So far on the front I did a 3cm tuck at the waist and added 1.5cm at the shoulder neck tapering to nothing at the shoulder arm side.
The plan on my next session is to do an FBA. After measuring the pattern I need to add about 7 cm for bust ease of about 10cm which the pattern calls for. I will then decide whether to keep the bust dart or rotate it out. I will check the fit and then decide if a sway back and any extra length is needed after I took out the 3cm at the waist.

When I purchased this pattern I thought it was for knits but it is designed for wovens. I have sort of combined the both with a silk type of fabric with some stretch in it. I think this pattern will be a winter wear as I will need to wear a cami under it as it is very low.

Mother's Day Weekend 2011

Mother's Day weekend started on Friday night when Jess and I went out for dinner. It was nice to be out of the house for an hour and just relax. After dinner Jess came home to see her Dad who has been missing her.

Saturday morning I got my new washing machine and the afternoon was spent mainly sewing. The kids and I were going to  mum and dad's but Lucy suddenly came down with a migraine and so bed and medication was the order of the afternoon. Whilst Lucy rested I managed to finish a pair of yoga pants. They are my favourite go to pattern that I drafted from a RTW pair. James went to Hockey and so me and the kids just hung out which was really nice. Lucy was thankfully feeling better by the evening.

Sunday morning brought me a yummy breakfast in bed. I LOVE croissants and I got some left over easter eggs as well hehe!!!!

I spent an hour or so in bed just reading blog - it was heaven.....

I was lucky and got a couple of lovely presents.

James and the kids got me these lovely earings. They are so pretty and I have been wanting a pair that I can wear all the time that are cute.

My lovely Jess gave me a really cool label maker. It's something I have wanted for a while but something I probably wouldn't have bought for myself. I will have some fun using this.

Mother's day lunch was spent with all the family at our favourite local chinese restaurant.

My little girl suddenly looks so grown up!! She is soooo sweet and I want her to stay this age for ever. I will miss her being a little girl.

She has the most precious face

Our silly self portrait

All the family at lunch, except Gail as she doesn't like to get her photo taken :/

My beautiful mum, who truely is the best mum in the world. I have been so lucky to be raised in a family of love and been taught so many good things. I have been really blessed to have such a warm family.

After lunch we went back to mum and dad's for cake but after a short while Lucy was unwell again so we headed home to let her rest.

I spent another hour in my sewing room and started to alter a new pattern (more on that in my next post).

Then James and I went for a walk and finished the weekend watching some TV together.
It was a fantastic weekend, I got in all my favourite things to do with my favourite people.

Clothes washing

Over the last few months my washing maching has been a little sad and temperamental. We have had our little 5kg Simpson machine for well over ten years and it has been a good work horse considering I do 2 loads most days of the week. It has also handles James's dirty work clothes. Well on Thursday it decided it could just handle it no longer.

This morning we went out looking for a new machine and was tossing up between a 9.5kg Simpson and the 8 kg Fisher and Paykal. The Fisher and Paykal won out as it had better water and energy efficiency. It was about $100 dearer but I hope will be cheaper in the long run.

Here is my new baby, we will be spending a LOT of time together over the next ten years or so.

I haven't yet read the manual from go to wo but what I have quickly read it has a lot of options. One I really like is that it chooses the water level for you. I just put a small load of whites on and was amazed at the very little water it used, my other machine would have pumped in a whole lot more water in even on the low cycle. It also has an allergy cycle, soft toy cycle and loads of others. I will definately be using the allergy cycle with Matt's sheets and doona.

Monday's Physio Session

Monday sure does come round fast. Yesterday I managed to get all the things done I wanted to and felt better for it.
  • I painted Jess's bowl and also painted a vase I had in the kids bathroom to be re-purposed on my desk.
  • I finished sewing the hem on my skirt
  • I did a huge pile of ironing and managed to get the floors vacuumed and tidied up somewhat
Today Lucy and I had an appointment with Glenn our physio. He is really happy with the progress Lucy is making and just gor her to refine a few of her exercises.

I happened to mention to him about my headaches and he is wondering if it is neck related. He has added in a few new exercises to my program to see if it helps with the headaches. In addition I have made an appointment for next week to have some hands on work done and maybe a little accupuncture to see if it helps. Always worth a go and a lot better than taking pills in my opinion!!!

After physio Lucy and I headed to Sarah's to see her for her birthday. Tammy and the girls were there also and we had a lovely time catching up.

I am going to spend an hour in my sewing room to make up another t shirt from this pattern.

So far I have done a t-shirt and two skirts. This is really going to be my go to pattern for a quick make.
I am trying to get an assortment of patterns that I can just quickly grab and produce a garment without too much fussing.
I am fine tuning my self drafted yoga pants pattern so I can make a few for the winter months. I find I am quick to make a going out dress or whatever but what I really need is those items that I wear every day. Items for the physio, school runs and a quick trip to the store. Once I get these patterns modified and a good fit I can whip them up in no time at all.
